Returns & your rights

What if my product arrives damaged or faulty?

Under the Australian Consumer Law you are entitled to a repair, replacement or refund if a product is faulty, not as described or does not do what it should. Email hello@simplybeingbeauty.au with your order number and a photo and we will make it right at no cost to you, including return postage.

Can I return a product if I change my mind?

Yes. In addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, we accept change-of-mind returns within 30 days of delivery for products that are unopened and in their original sealed packaging. Return postage for change-of-mind returns is at your cost. See our Shipping & Returns page for details.

What if a product doesn't suit my scalp or hair?

If a product causes a reaction, stop using it and contact us. We treat this seriously and will work with you on a solution, which may include a refund or exchange even if the product has been opened. We ask for a description of the reaction so we can record it as part of our product safety monitoring.

Products & ingredients

Does biotin make hair grow?

Biotin is a B vitamin associated with healthy-looking hair, and in our products it conditions the hair fibre from the outside. Applied topically it does not change how hair grows, and we make no claim that it does. Products that claim to treat hair loss are therapeutic goods in Australia; ours are cosmetics.

Why does my scalp tingle?

Field mint oil and menthol produce a cooling sensation on the scalp. It is normal and passes within a few minutes. If you feel burning, stinging that does not settle, or redness, rinse off and discontinue use.

Where are your products made?

Simply Being is based in Melbourne, Australia. The country of manufacture, batch number and full ingredients list are printed on every pack.

Are your products fragrance-free?

No. The Hair & Scalp Oil is scented with named essential oils (rosemary, field mint, eucalyptus, lavandin and tea tree) and menthol rather than an undisclosed "parfum". Essential oils naturally contain fragrance allergens such as linalool and limonene, so if you have a sensitive scalp, patch test first.

Can I use your products while pregnant or breastfeeding?

Our products contain essential oils including rosemary and eucalyptus. Many people use them without issue, but we are not able to give medical advice and recommend you check with your doctor or midwife before introducing any new product.

What does the little open-jar symbol mean?

That is the period-after-opening (PAO) symbol. The number inside (for example 12M) tells you how many months a product stays at its best once opened. Write the date you open a product on the base of the bottle.

Do I need to patch test?

We recommend it for every new product, gentle or not. Apply a small amount behind the ear or at the nape of the neck daily for two to three days and watch for any reaction. Our journal has a full guide.

Do your products contain nuts?

Yes. The Hair & Scalp Oil contains sweet almond oil (a tree nut), coconut oil and soybean oil. Allergens are listed on the product page under Safety, and the full ingredients list is on the pack.

Why do you use preservatives?

Any product containing water will grow bacteria, yeast and mould within days without preservation. We use the mildest effective systems, at the lowest effective level, and list every one. Unpreserved water-based haircare is unsafe.

Are your ingredients registered in Australia?

Yes. Every ingredient we use is listed on the Australian Inventory of Industrial Chemicals or otherwise permitted under the Australian Industrial Chemicals Introduction Scheme (AICIS), and our products are labelled in line with the Consumer Goods (Cosmetics) Information Standard 2020.

Are your products suitable for curly hair?

The Hair & Scalp Oil can be combed through damp or dry hair, used as a pre-wash scalp treatment, or applied sparingly to ends, and many people with curls use oils this way. It is not tested to any specific curl-method standard, so check the ingredients list against your own preferences.

Sustainability

Is your packaging recyclable?

The pack carries the recycling symbol. Recycle the outer carton kerbside; check your local council's guidance for the bottle and dropper, and rinse before recycling.
